Our Princesses on Ice

Our family has been enjoying a bit of a break this week. Kim and the girls were on spring break from school this week and so I decided to take a week of vacation so we could all be together. Much of our time has been spent on sitting and talking, cleaning things in the house that don't normally get the attention, organizing, and most of all playing with the girls. Yesterday we purchased a gun safe to keep all our guns and ammo out of the reach of little hands. With only the other bus mechanic that I work with, Kim, and I we managed to get the 745lb. beast off of the trailer and through the garage and into the house. Talk about strenuous! In the end we managed it but I certainly wouldn't want to do it for a living. Today the girls got all dressed up in their princess dresses and we went to the new Sprint Center in Kansas City to see Disney Princesses on Ice. Talk about a production. There were skaters, flips, dancing, lights, sets, and a fire breathing dragon that even caught the ice on fire!!! For one of the first times this week the girls were speechless. They sat there enthralled with the pageantry and beauty that is the imagination of disney characters. I had as much fun watching their faces as I had watching the show. All in all it was a wonderful day and the kind of day that our little ones will not soon forget. I hope everyone can take a little time away from the firestorm that is this political season and think about imagination and fun.

Iraqi Dinar Investment

I was thinking of investing, or rather gambling, some money in the Iraqi Dinar. I was thinking about this for a couple of reasons. The most obvious reason is the potential of large profits if the currency begins to perform well once Iraq is more stabile. They have great potential given their wealth of oil and oil's insistence on becoming more and more expensive. The other reason is it would seem to be a vote of confidence in their country and their people. I may be just a day-dream believer but I hold out hope for Iraq to become a stabilized and prosperous nation. If that hope turned out one day to be realized and happened to pay my house off at the same time -- well, that would be double great. Currently you can purchase $100,000 in Iraqi Dinar for about $120. What do you guys think about any of this?

The New Christian Beard & Hat

It has come to my attention that certain people groups or religions have very distinctive beard styles. It is easy to spot a man of Jewish faith or a man of Muslim faith by their beard. Feeling a bit left out I have attempted to come up with a beard to represent myself as distinctively Christian. With the help of Christian brothers everywhere the new Christian beard can thrive. Christian brothers stand united and start rockin' the christian beard!!!

Bass Pro Now Open in Independence

Last night our family braved the crowd and cold weather to attend the Grand Opening of the new Bass Pro shop in Independence, Missouri. I have never been in a store with that many people before in my entire life. The event was short but chock full. They opened at 6:30 PM and only stayed open until 9:00 PM. Once we found a parking spot on the street we made our way to the main entrance. Once inside we were greeted with a live band in the entrance way. The Bass Pro people went all out on this event. Inside they had Martin Truex (nascar), 2 Miss Missouri winners, Freddie Patek (KC Royals hall of famer), Frank White (KC Royals hall of famer), Brodie Croyle, Dwayne Bowe, and Eddie Kennison (KC Chiefs), The Black Widow (female pool shark), The Bass Pro Nascar car, the National Guard motorcycle built by Orange County Choppers, and assorted fishing and hunting tv personalities. Downstairs there was another live band. Quite the little celebration! Today I went back there in the afternoon so I could actually see the store. The store itself is beautiful and well done. The gun counter is probably 80 feet long. All their ammo was 10% off so I got a few boxes. We'll certainly be back there once the initial crowds die down.

Someone's Got Some Explaining To Do

To be fair, I would hope this is not what she meant to convey to people. Certainly she has been proud of our country at some point in the past 26 years since she was 18 years old. After all, much has happened since 1982. Statements like these should not be overlooked though. There is a stark difference between this statement and the non-verbal statement of giving one's life to serve in the military and spending 5 years in the Hanoi Hilton to defend our country out of love and pride for America. An exceedingly wise man once said "from the overflow of the heart the mouth speaks."

Another Reason to Love Israel

The Desert Eagle is a large caliber gas-operated semi-automatic pistol manufactured primarily in Israel by IMI (Israel Military Industries) for Magnum Research, Inc. Magnum Research has also marketed various versions of the short recoil Jericho 941 pistol under similar names; these have no functional relationship to the magnum Desert Eagle and bear only a moderate cosmetic resemblance.

The Desert Eagle was originally designed by Bernard C. White of Magnum Research, who filed a patent on a mechanism for a gas-actuated pistol in January of 1983. This established the basic layout of the Desert Eagle. It consisted of a gas-operated mechanism normally found in rifles, as opposed to the short recoil or blow-back designs most commonly seen in semi-automatic pistols. A second patent was filed in December of 1985, after the basic design had been refined by IMI for production, and this is the form that went into production.
From a functional perspective, the Desert Eagle is more like a small rifle than a pistol. The Desert Eagle's rotating bolt strongly resembles that of the M16 series of rifles, while the fixed gas cylinder/moving piston resemble those of the Ruger Mini-14 carbine (the original patent used a captive piston similar to the M14 rifle). The advantage of the gas-operation is that it allows the use of far more powerful cartridges than traditional semi-automatic pistol designs, and it allows the Desert Eagle to compete in an area that had previously been dominated by magnum revolvers.

The Joys of Fatherhood!!!

As most of you already know I have the pleasure and joy of being called Papa by twin 4-year-old girls. Much like their Mama they are my closest friends and I covet spending time with them. Sometimes we play as cowboys, sometimes as hunters, sometimes as prince and princesses, sometimes as animals, and sometimes just as family. Today however they decided that daddy needed a little sprucing up and to be "made handsome." Being well versed in imagination and masters of carrying out that imagination they were quite thorough in my "transformation."
