188 Thank You's

Thank you House Republicans for standing as ONE and ALL voting against throwing $819,000,000,000 more into the foul smelling winds of change. It's too bad that the money will be spent anyhow. Another huge debt burden for the shoulders of our children to carry. We are trading their future to continue on the path of irresponsibility in the here and now.

  1. Thanks, too, to the 11 Democrats that also opposed this wasteful ball and chain.

If only the Senate would do the same.

  2. The Dems own this one.

There is already talk of another banking stimulus bill. Maybe that's what they were all talking about at the inauguration.

  3. Note to President Obama: Is that a stimulus package in your pocket, or are you just happy to see me?

  4. This is simply shameful. Embarassing. Disturbing. Distressing. Disrupting. Upsetting. Disquieting. Dismaying. Troubling. Worrisome. Irksome. Alarming.

Well, the Democrats blamed Bush for all the trouble, now they're going to have to figure out who they can lay it off on with Hussein running the show.

  6. Yes, watching Congress try to save capitalism from itself is upsetting.

Although the Republican "plan" to just scuttle the ship seems less desirable.

  7. DUCKY -- answer this question for me. Exactly HOW MUCH of this money do you honestly believe will directly result in our economy being stimulated and jobs being CREATED? What I see is a smoke screen to make people believe that this money is for US while it is really only for THEM (politicians pet projects.) What I see is money designated for health care that has not one measure to help make our health care better or less expensive but only to make our health care nationalized. I see money designated for energy that has far less to do with new or cheaper energy but rather to create a "smart grid" so as to nationalize our energy. You will be charged more for the energy you use during peak times for example. This is on top of the nationalization of the banking system that is currently taking place and the move towards government being in control of a large share of our auto industry. All of these things have nothing to do with stimulating our economy and have everything to do with us placing necessities of our lives under the direct control of government. This is the largest and most expensive plan EVER to increase the size of government and place them smack dab inside our daily life. Please honestly tell me what you think is going to directly stimulate our economy and make life better.

Nice to thank them, but we're stuck with the mess nevertheless...

Man. At least obama, reid and pelosi can't blame US when America's destitute. *($)#&

  11. Money to expand SCHIP, the children's welfare program that wastes money on free government health care for rich adults.

    Sheesh....

(Papa, I blogged about the Bank of Tightwad in Missouri recently).

Ducky: This bill isn't about saving capitalism, that's for sure.

  12. dmarks-It's creeping(sorry, GALLOPING) socialism/communism!
Nanny state is making huge strides...sickening...and I know ducky thinks the Founding Fathers are just dead white men, so they don't count, but this country was founded on principles...and those have been flushed as non-progressive.
It was meant to encourage self reliance, virtue and accountability...not diaper changing.
    G*D bless and MARANATHA!

  13. DUCKY -- answer this question for me. Exactly HOW MUCH of this money do you honestly believe will directly result in our economy being stimulated and jobs being CREATED?

Yeah, it's a little frightening. Fact is that we don't know. We really don't.

Just what this package is in reality isn't clear yet and I still have fears that they are trying to reflate the bubble and get us right back on track for a larger problem.

But that's the point, I don't know. AND NEITHER DO YOU. Neither of us is any more qualified than a box of freakin' rocks to say just what this will do but I am not going to start shouting some Rush Limbaugh bromides and think I have this sussed.

That's the difference. I think the "smart grid" is a very good project. It's something that has to be done on a national level since so much co-ordination is needed and it will make the grid more efficient and secure (remember the east coast power outage a few years ago when the grid failed).

So I'll go with the left who try to have a vision rather than right wingers who do nothing but whine that this plan won't make their energy cheaper immediately.

As for nationalization. Well clearly the banks have done just dandy in private hands. No, the word doesn't scare me a bit.

  14. I'm curious Frank. You get ice storms in Missouri?

I'm a little spoiled because I live near the coast and they are rare in my immediate area but this has been a pretty rough year in a lot of places.

Lot of electricity outages. Now do you think maintenance of the grid would ameliorate some of the loss?

In all honesty I think you have this utter distrust of government so overwhelmingly that you would rather curse the darkness than light a candle.

    You folks are pathological. Really.

  16. I also like Greg Palast's take on it:

Republicans are right. President Barack Obama treated them like dirt, didn't give a damn what they thought about his stimulus package, loaded it with a bunch of programs that will last for years and will never leave the budget, is giving away money disguised as "tax refunds," and is sneaking in huge changes in policy, from schools to health care, using the pretext of an economic emergency.

Way to go, Mr. O! Mr. Down-and-Dirty Chicago style. Street-fightin' man. Covering over his break-your-face power play with a "we're all post-partisan friends" BS.

    And it's about time.

Frankly, I was worried about this guy. Obama's appointing Clinton-droids to the Cabinet, bloated incompetents like Larry Summers as "Economics Czar," made me fear for my country, that we'd gotten another Democrat who wished he were a Republican.

Then came Obama's money bomb. The House bill included $125 billion for schools (TRIPLING federal spending on education), expanding insurance coverage to the unemployed, making the most progressive change in the tax code in four decades by creating a $500 credit against social security payroll deductions, and so on.

It's as if Obama dug up Ronald Reagan's carcass and put a stake through The Gipper's anti-government heart. Aw-RIGHT!

About the only concession Obama threw to the right-wing trogs was to remove the subsidy for condoms, leaving hooker-happy GOP Senators, like David Vitter, to pay for their own protection. S'OK with me.

And here's the proof that Bam is The Man: Not one single Republican congressman voted for the bill. And that means that Obama didn't compromise, the way Clinton and Carter would have, to win the love of these condom-less jerks.

And we didn't need'm. Nyah! Nyah! Nyah!

Now I understand Obama's weird moves: dinner with those creepy conservative columnists, earnest meetings at the White House with the Republican leaders, a dramatic begging foray into Senate offices. Just as the Republicans say, it was all a fraud. Obama was pure Chicago, Boss Daley in a slim skin, putting his arms around his enemies, pretending to listen and care and compromise, then slowly, quietly, slipping in the knife. All while the media praises Obama's "post-partisanship." Heh heh heh.

Love it. Now we know why Obama picked that vindictive little viper Rahm Emanuel as staff chief: everyone visiting the Oval office will be greeted by the Windy City hit man who would hack up your grandma if you mess with the Godfather-in-Chief.

I don't know about you, but THIS is the change I've been waiting for.

Will it last? We'll see if Obama caves in to more tax cuts to investment bankers. We'll see if he stops the sub-prime scum-bags from foreclosing on frightened families. We'll see if he stands up to the whining, gormless generals who don't know how to get our troops out of Iraq. (In SHIPS, you doofusses!)

Look, don't get your hopes up. But it may turn out the new President's ... a Democrat!"

  17. Yehudi, do you think we should cut the five or six billion we're sending to Likud, the world's biggest bunch of welfare queens?

    ReplyDelete
  18. If they are giving money out like that, why don't they just give all US citizens a billion dollars a piece and let us decide where to spend it.

Tha's what less than 300 billion dollars? We'd be saving upwards 500 billion.

I know it won't happen but we need to try something and this way we get some money since they're giving it out anyway.

    Blessings.

Again, I.H.S. because you only know what short term itch you want to scratch.

Like the so called "free market" individuals ARE NOT the best judges of smart long term investment.

Individuals make short term decisions and that is NOT what we want now.

  22. Trust me Ducky, they give me a billion dollars and I'm investing for the long haul and not just satisfy a short term itch.

    Blessings.

  23. Yes I.H.S. I would believe that. When I say "you" I'm referring to the generic individual.

  24. Papa, the people without the guns are gonna tell the people with the guns what to do. How did that happen?

    ReplyDelete
  25. It's pretty funny that you think this is how it is going to be. It has never been that way in the history of the world and it will never be that way in the future. Why do you think that socialist liberals ALWAYS attempt to restrict or to remove guns?

    ReplyDelete
  26. Ducky -- I've never listened to Rush Limbaugh in my life so I wouldn't know what he thinks. But thanks for stereotyping. I have no economic issue with the smart grid (other than that it's too expensive) my issue is with the government controlling another part of my life. If the government controls it they will eventually regulate it and decide for you what is "best." Another freedom gone. I do not have a mistrust of government but I will not turn a blind eye to the lessons of history in regards to state control either. I actually am fascinated by government and appreciate the things that government has the potential to do. For instance, the fact that I can write a letter and ask someone to take it to the farthest reaches of our country to the smallest little podunk town and deliver it for me and that in return for that I am willing to give them 42 cents. That's amazing!!! Ice storms are horrific and would not benefit at all from a smart grid. The problem is mainly power lines and not power sources. The health insurance for kids is a tiny portion of the money being asked for and the bulk of the money is to put all our health records onto a grid of it's own where we can once again be monitored and eventually regulated. My health care did not get any better it just became more people's business.

Congratulations on getting the farthest left voting Democrat. You're bound to enjoy the most liberal administration ever. However, history once again teaches us that this is the perfect formula for a sustained Republican rule in the near future. So we'll grin and bear it for the next few years and get ready to come back in and mop up the mess later.

  27. Well Frank, the R's sure are rolling the dice. I think we'll all agree that the economy dwarfs all other issues in America.

Now whatever the result of the Dem proposal, the R's have opted out. So it's sink or swim for the Dems.

Now if you haven't noticed there is no resistence to Obama initiating a saner domestic program. Stem cells, unions etc. it's moving left and the right is no factor.

So if the Dem economic plan functions you are dead meat, roadkill for at least a couple decades.

You are in the tight position of hoping the economic recovery fails if you are to regain any power at all.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Also you are going to be given a lesson on this "freedom" you talk about.

In America, money trumps freedom. In China and Russia money really trumps freedom and when you have countries that have no value on freedom using money as a weapon you have a problem.

So I suggest you come up for air, look at what is going on in the world and can the fourth grade aphorisms because this is real and we can't afford the right wing balast.

Your right wing heroes came close to wrecking the nation. Move aside.

  29. You are right about the Republicans rolling the dice and going all in. I am torn about how to think of the stimulus bill. I certainly don't agree with expanding government and cringe to think of the burden we have passed off of ourselves and laid squarely on not only our children but our grandchildren as well. However, I always wish for our country to succeed and do well no matter who is in power. In that sense, I hope for the stimulus to work. The only portions of the bill that are actually geared towards "stimulating" our economy and jobs are the portions about infrastructure. And that part is an antiquated idea from the Depression. The problem is that back then nobody had a job and to build a bridge took 200 men that would now be employed. Now the same task takes 15 men and 12 pieces of equipment.

The latter part of the week, I felt much better, but I had to make up all the work I had missed.

I'm glad to be able to play catch up this weekend and hit all the posts that I missed this week.
