Forget Mt. Rushmore Now There's Mt. Obama
The Prime Minister of the Caribbean nation of Antigua announced yesterday that the country’s tallest peak would be renamed Mount Obama in honor of the new American President.
The mountain is a popular hiking spot for locals and tourists alike.
Many islands of the Caribbean have been suffering from a dramatic recession-induced drop in visitors. Tourism is the number one industry throughout the region, and to spur demand, many resorts and hotels have been offering deep discounts.
Of the decision to rename the 1,300-foot high mountain, Prime Minister Baldwin Spencer simply said that he wanted to celebrate Obama’s inauguration with a gesture that would resonate with “people of color all over the world, and indeed all people,” and “ignite hope and action in people of many countries who might still be passive in the face of inadequacies and injustice.”
Spencer originally wrote to Obama after the election in November telling him of his intentions.
However, not all Antiguans were equally thrilled at the prospect. Some reportedly questioned the Prime Minister’s motives, while others were unsure of Obama’s relevance to their country.
I heard they took a vote on what to rename it, and "Mt Dumbass" was a very close second.
ReplyDeleteYehudi, heh heh
ReplyDeleteMaybe he was born there?
Whenever I say the word, "Obama" I pretend I am speaking in Guarani, the native indian language here in Paraguay, it means,"leaving"!!!!
ReplyDeleteDid they finally name that sewage treatment plant in San Francisco after Bush as was proposed?
ReplyDeleteIt should come as no surprise that ducky would show up and make a lame attempt at humor. Nice try, ducky, but this pond is a favorite spot for duck hunters. Might want to try safer waters somewhere else.

ReplyDeleteSAN FRANCISCO (AP) — A measure seeking to commemorate President Bush's years in office by slapping his name on a San Francisco sewage plant has qualified for the November ballot.
ReplyDeleteThe measure certified Thursday would rename the Oceanside Water Pollution Control Plant the George W. Bush Sewage Plant.
Supporters say the idea is to commemorate the mess they claim Bush has left behind by actions such as the war in Iraq.

Unfortunately, the petition was not voted in.
Well, it looks like you found your flock.
ReplyDeleteInteresting that Ducky's flock is in San Francisco.
ReplyDeleteDarn it! These guys beat me to the punch. I have a big pile of chicken crap out behind the coop and I was going to name it Mount Obama.

ReplyDeleteI guess whenever I go out to police my Great Dane's poop, I will be going out to pick up the Obama from now on.
If you're not comfortable with testosterone, ducky, then maybe you belong in a more effeminate flock...in San Fransisco. Fly birdie, fly!
ReplyDeleteAct?
ReplyDeleteAct? What does that mean?
ReplyDeleteReread Ducky's comment.
ReplyDeleteAahhh...I got it. Hehehe...
ReplyDeleteMen shouldn't need to ACT butch, they should be what G*D created them to be, men.
ReplyDeleteAnd strong, intelligent and confident women don't ACT butch either, they are just being what G*D created them to be, and that is, "ezers"...
As for, "Mount Obama's", a hose works just fine for my dog's...

Great blog, I love it..
ReplyDeleteI'm one of those who isn't exactly convinced that naming something Obama will make tourists flock towards it. Me, I wouldn't cross the street to see something Obama if there was a forest fire on my side of the street! Go figure.
ReplyDeleteMaybe if he named the volcano Freemoneyuphere he might get some takers.
