A Fish Tale

I loves me some fishin'!!! The girls and I got a chance to sneak off to the lake and do a little fishing this week. We went on Tuesday while Kim was at her Master's class (or while mommy's at college as the girls would say.) This last week I stumbled upon a lake that I never knew was there. It belongs to Missouri Conservation and so anyone can use it. The best part is that it is only 18 miles from our house and so it's not too far away. They have a floating and covered dock out there and so it is a perfect set-up for young ones like my girls to fish. They can fish without the sun beating down on them the whole time and fish love hanging around the shade of docks. We had a blast!!! We used the old school, tried and true method of one pole, one hook, one bobber, one worm. I brought along a pole but never even put a line in the water. When it was all done the girls had caught 9 bluegill and lost 3 times as many worms. We came home and the girls sat in amazement while I cleaned the fish and filleted them. We miss mommy on Tuesdays but it's been such a time of blessing for me to have a natural built-in day for just me and my girls. I have a feeling that many Tuesday afternoons will be spent on our new found lake.

Lucky y'all's!
Sounds like fun, but they grow up so fast, and fishing with Daddy becomes boring...and icky. LOL!
Dang, it would be great to keep them younger for longer. :sigh:

when you lose that much bait, we like to think of it as feeding the fish or freeing some bait! then we don't feel so bad.

my in-laws were here for over a week and we had a great fish fry before they left - a whole slug of catfish and my one crappie pop caught a few weeks ago - i made my homemade tartar sauce. if you like tartar sauce i must admit it's the best and simple.

That is absolutely wonderful! Let me tell ya, it does something great for a girl to grow up knowing how to do things like clean a fish, skin a rabbit (ewwww! I did that once), and even hunt. It gives her a sense of pride and strength. Jason, you're giving them a gift greater than you realize.
Keep it up!

I caught a catfish at Food Lion today (that's what we call grocery stores where I'm from!)

I caught 2 catfish last night at the new lake we found. One was 22" and one was 23". I like the night fishing but I was up way too late. Pulled into the driveway around 3:00 AM.

Jason..that's just the neatest thing, taking your girls fishing! :)

That new lake was quite a good find, wasn't it?

My Mama could cook the best catfish, and hush-puppies in the whole world! She would always make real french fries, and delicious coleslaw to go with them, too.

She would deep-fry it in an old iron Dutch Oven.

Thanks for stirring up a precious memory!

I never was much for fishing, but I like to sit by the bank and look at the water.

It sounds like you had a good time!

A girl needs that time with her father, to learn what a man is all about and what she should expect later. You're doing good by those babies!

Amen, Brooke!
Look for Daniel to have superhuman powers soon. lol!

What makes you think he doesn't already?
