The Old Rugged Cross
On a hill far away stood an old rugged cross,
the emblem of suffering and shame;
and I love that old cross where the dearest and best
for a world of lost sinners was slain.
Refrain:
So I'll cherish the old rugged cross,
till my trophies at last I lay down;
I will cling to the old rugged cross,
and exchange it some day for a crown.
2. O that old rugged cross, so despised by the world,
has a wondrous attraction for me;
for the dear Lamb of God left his glory above
to bear it to dark Calvary.
(Refrain)
3. In that old rugged cross, stained with blood so divine,
a wondrous beauty I see,
for 'twas on that old cross Jesus suffered and died,
to pardon and sanctify me.
(Refrain)
4. To that old rugged cross I will ever be true,
its shame and reproach gladly bear;
then he'll call me some day to my home far away,
where his glory forever I'll share.
(Refrain)

That hymn has NEVER lost it's luster...there is great Truth in the simple words.
But then, ALL of HIS truth's are so simple that a child can understand, but so profound a scholar learns something new each day.
May you and your's have a blessed and heartful Easter1

This Hymn moves me everytime.
Have a blessed Resurrection weekend from my house to yours and every house in between.
Blessings.
I'm so thankful.
Ah yes, one of my favorites. Nice reminder her Papa Frank. It should be sung with a quiet, soft melody...

There is nothing like that REFRAIN, is there...
thanks, Pops.
I hope you and yours have a happy Easter season, P.F.
Have a wonderful Resurrection Day, Jason and Frank family!
That was my grandfather's favorite hymn. He sang it and hummed it all the time. God rest his soul.
Happy Easter!
papa frank: That is one of my favorite hymns. Each verse is so meaningful.
My mother is 94 and lives alone (my dad died last year on Monday at 98). Yesterday I played Old Rugged Cross on the piano - over the phone - for her and my husband sang. She loved it.
"The Old Rugged Cross" was my mother's favorite hymn. Mom went to be with the Lord in 1987, so now the hymn has several levels of meaning for me.
Happy Easter, Papa Frank!
An old Southern Baptist goodie.
I hope you are having a reflective and peaceful Easter, PF. :)
Thank you everyone for the Easter greetings. We were having a bit of a mini-vacation down to Branson. It was a great time as a family and very refreshing indeed. It's good to get away from your routine and where you live if only for a short time. I hope my friends here had a great Easter weekend. And I hope all got a little time to reflect on what a great God we have. Peace to all.
