Everything Going as Planned

Our current government has bright spots from time to time that usually go unsung. One such bright spot is happening even as we speak. The preparation and planning that was in place for hurricane Gustav seems to be paying off. Part of the strength of an administration is the ability to go through a horrible situation and learn from it and make the next similar situation much easier. Katrina came with such fierce criticism of President Bush with idiots claiming that Bush himself blew up the levees and that Bush "hates black people." I hope these same idiots will look at the very good handling of hurricane Gustav and the fortitude of the Republican leadership in putting their convention on the back burner and the goodness of Democrats in helping out however they can. American leadership focusing on the American people if only for a short time. But most likely these cowards and idiots will only turn their heads and pretend to not see or hear. Yes that means you Kanye West!

Note how the media is giving the NO mayor all the credit so far...

And how they did not give him the blame the last time.

You both took the comments right out of my mouth. I noticed how brilliant he is looking now that there is a GOP Governor and Bush was prepared.

Oh, come on..you're all being far too hard on Nagin.
he told everyone to get out of town.........three years late, of course.

thoughtful post papa frank.

sometimes, my brain focuses only on what is said rather than what is not said.

a recent glaring exception was when i was watching hillary clinton's speech last week - proud mother, proud senator, proud democrat - yet, no mention of being a proud wife.

off topic, but, shows that my brain has hope for the future - i need to listen more to what is not being said.

it is nice to know that as a collective community, we can learn from past mistakes, and prepare better for the future. we were better prepared for his hurricane, and we've been able to make our air travels safer, preventing another attack on our country using commercial airplanes.

it is sad to think that, as you said in your post, the mistakes, missteps, and negativity are mentioned ad infinitum, but the successes are swept to the sides, to be forgotten and buried.

thoughtful post.

Jendal was a star. Those scumbags on the left who chuckled that Gustav is proof that God exists and is a Democrat are eating their words.

Seems like they had it more together this time.

For the life of me, I will never understand how the left can think that Bush can control weather enough to make hurricanes and blow up levees, but wring their hands about how we must stop global warming.

The local, state, & federal officials must work together in order for the system to work. That didn't happen during Katrina. Thankfully, it did happen this time.

I'm so cynical these days. I see both sides using Gustav as a politcal ploy. Makes me ill.
I hope I'm wrong about the Republicans.

sigh.

I'm already worn out with it and we've got a long two months to go.

"Sorry about last time, families of the 1500 people killed in this, the most 'powerful' nation on Earth." I hope Gustav at least gave Bush plenty of "getting my hard hat and hammer" photo ops like Katrina did. What a joke.

FOTR -- That's the thing about the being the most powerful nation -- you're still not as powerful as the forces of nature. When you combine that with people's ignorant insistence on living below sea level in a fish bowl you get things like Katrina from time to time. But not to worry, they're rebuilding the fish bowl exactly at the same level so they can complain the next time as well. Funny thing about fish bowls, they like to fill up with water.
