Looks a fair amount like my grandfather. He had almost no education except what he taught himself (he could read), he smoked like a chimney (this is what killed him), at one time he was an alcoholic (dry for his last 20 years), he was just a common bricklayer, and he was the best man I have ever known.

He survived WWII and helped liberate one of the concentration camps. I don't know which one because he would never talk about it.

He worked his butt off to make a simple living and he was happy with what he had. He told me once that he didn't know he was poor until the government told him he was. This was when the federal government started releasing the poverty level numbers.

He shaped my life until his death when I was 23. It's been 23 years since then and I have never stopped missing him.

That's a great quote. Excellent picture to go with it, too.

Great photo.
I love my overalls.

LOVE the Rosie Rivetter / Sarah Palin on the right, Jason.
Did I mention that I'm going as Rosie for Halloween this year? Fun, fun!!

Common people are the sat of the earth. This reminds me of my grand father. He was a Baptist preacher in W. Va. He never took a salary form the church but worked his farm.

It always amazes me how some of the GREATEST and most loved people on earth are some of the most imperfect people we know. There is so much to be said about REAL people and so little to be admired in those who appear to have everything together. Simple and imperfect is just fine by me and dirty overalls just seem to epitomize that.

Hear! Hear! I'll take the salt of the earth over the puny, whining children of the left anytime.

Looks a little like my grandfather. He was a blacksmith for the Boston & Maine railroad and a union organizer.

Salt of the earth.

Whole family goes back to left wing labor organizing.Mill girls in Lowell and the like.

Then there's my leftist uncle Josip who tunneled off the Gulag. Right wingers aren't ready for the meaning of real suffering.
