Jake Long OT

I've been watching a little bit of the NFL combine the last couple of days. It's no secret that my Kansas City Chiefs are in desperate need of some help on their offensive line. I think this guy would help out nicely.

Jake Long OT:

Height:6'7"
Weight:315
College:Michigan

Draft Scout Snapshot: 2007: Finished second in the voting for the Lombardi Award and Outland Trophy…Unanimous All-Big Ten Conference first-team pick and named the league's Offensive Lineman of the Year for the second-straight season…Added Academic All-Big Ten Conference honors… Hugh R. Rader Jr. Memorial Award recipient as Michigan's top offensive lineman and received the Mike Gittleson Award, given to the U-M player who exhibits a resolute work ethic and commitment to preparing for the game...Served as team captain for the second consecutive campaign, starting all thirteen games at left offensive tackle…Helped the team average 385.1 yards per game…The Wolverines amassed 1,251 of their 2,144 yards on the ground over Long's left tackle position, as he registered 119 knockdowns, including 18 touchdown-resulting blocks…Allowed only one quarterback sack on 423 pass plays and was penalized just once, finishing with an 87.85% grade for blocking consistency…Also recorded one solo tackle. All-American, started all 13 games at left tackle in '06. Missed time w/ankle injury. Played in final five games and started four games at left tackle in '05. All-Big Ten second team in '04. He looks like a definate force to be reckoned with! The offensive line of New England played a huge part in the reason Tom Brady had such a successful season. KC could definately use some help...

Yeah, Tom Brady had all kinds of time to make good decisions and that was a real asset to them. The same thing with the Colts. Their line gives Peyton a good amount of time as well. We didn't get to see what Brodie Croyle was capable of this year because he simply had no chance. Once we get a line we can see how he'll do.

That's often been my thought concerning Joey Harrington. He had no protection in Detroit, Miami, or Atlanta. Well, a little better in Atlanta. I think he could be a fantastic QB if he had the protection necessary to get the ball downfield.

Who do you think would fit in the O-Line in Chi-town? We need some big-time protection. Rex was signed to a one-year extention yesterday. He'll suck it up again if he doesn't have some big bodies in front of him. As for our RB's, they don't stand a chance if there's no blocking.

Eitan -- during that 2008 NFL Combine they were saying that this year's Offensive Line class is the best they've seen in more than ten years and some said it was the best they had ever seen. There should be plenty of big aggressive players to go around. Several were bigger than 310 lbs. and many had surprisingly fast 40 meter runs. I'm hoping that Kansas City picks up at least two lineman and they should take 3.

Jason: why are you a fan of K.C.? I mean it doesn't have a very prolific history and you're not from there are ya?

But yeah, I hope Da Bears pick an Offensive Lineman because these days most teams' offenses work 'round their offensive line.

Not a prolific history? You ever hear of Lamar Hunt? You know, the one who named the Super Bowl. The one who created the AFL. The one who died only a year ago and whose family still owns the Chiefs. The Chiefs were also in the very first Super Bowl and won the fourth Super Bowl. They still have the loudest stadium in the league even though they are not in a dome.

Ok but how 'bout some of the Indi teams? How 'bout the Steelers of the 70's? How 'bout some of the Green Bay teams? Even Da Bears have a more prolific history than K.C. in my opinion. I've heard of Lamar Hunt but I think that winning football says more about a club than the achievement of ownership.

Jason: who else would you recommend based on what you saw at the combines?

Ryan Clady, Jeff Otah and Chris Williams all looked quite good and the commentators seemed to think they would go in the first round.

Wow...did you see the news bout McFadden's 40-meters?

Papa Frank said...

Yeah! When he first ran the unofficial time was 4.27. In the end the official time was actually 4.33. After he got done running the commentators said "go ahead and put your sweats on - your done. We don't need to talk, we don't need to see you or meet you. Let's sign now!!!" He's only a Junior too. He's gonna skip his Senior year to enter the draft.
