Another Obama Employed Criminal -- Anyone Surprised?

(CNN) –The street artist who created the ubiquitous red, white and blue Obama "Hope" posters was arrested Friday in Boston on outstanding graffiti charges, police said.

Shepard Fairey, 38, was arrested en route to an opening party for his first solo art exhibition on two outstanding warrants for property damage by graffiti, Boston police said.

Officer James Kenneally said the instances of graffiti involved images of the late wrestler Andre the Giant — Fairey's tag.

The Friday arrest represents Fairey's second legal tangle this week.

Earlier, the Associated Press accused him of copyright infringement, saying the iconic "Hope" portrait of the president is based on an April 2006 photograph of Obama taken by AP's Mannie Garcia.

From the picture, I'd say his last name was appropriate.

True character will out.

I hope that the AP pushes the charges of copyright infringement.

Whatever, the image is in the public domain and it's iconic.

It's here for a while.

AOW, the AP has a tough case.

They are going to essentially establish that any treatment of Obama's image is a copyright violation of the original photo.

The image here has numerous elements that are quite independent of the particular photo used. Just about any head shot of Obama would have worked and you aren't able to copyright.

Sorry.

No Warhol fans here?

I'm surprised.

I enjoy some of Andy's work but don't remember him being arrested for criminal activity. Character counts ducky. Too bad a radical feminist leftist (you know the peaceful sort) stole his art from us. Only two days before a man from the "religion of peace" killed the closest thing we ever had to an honorable Kennedy.

Papa, Warhol survived the attack.

He probably produced some of his best serigraphs after it.

...and it's nice to see someone from my alma mater (RISD) make good.

Great pic at the top.

When I saw the news story about Fairey, I laughed my butt off!

TWO WARRANTS for tagging? You'd have to put graffiti on every building in Boston for that!

I like a lot of Warhol's art.

Fairey looks creepy.

Ducky, believe it or not, I've always been fascinated by Edie Sedgwick...have read tons about the Warhold/Sedgwick days......What was that woman's name..Ultra Violet, or something? (it's been a while) WEIRD GROUP but it fascinated me.

Pops...I'm hoping you find the time to read my post TROY CAN SAY THE PLEDGE ...I thought you and Kim might like it, being that it's from my preschool teaching and is a pretty darned sweet story. I hope you like it..xxx

Yeah Ultra was one of the group.

I remember that me and some of the guys were underage but we managed to sneak in when "Chelsea Girls" first screened.

An utter bore.

Word is that Dylan's "Like a Rolling Stone" was written about Sedgwick.

Hey Ducky, I went to an art fair last weekend and saw a few pieces by Sol LeWitt. Made me think of you! I had a blast. Ever been to the Pace gallery in Chelsea?

The Pace? Sure.

I do enjoy DeWitt.
