The New Yorker Obama Cover
"Satire lies about literary men while they live and eulogy lies about them when they die." -- Voltaire
Though I do not believe this to be an accurate description of Obama I do find it interesting. There is a reason that Barack Hussein Obama is portrayed here as a muslim. There is a reason that Michelle Obama is portrayed in an aggressive manner. There is a reason that the American flag is being burned in the fireplace. My concern is not that these things are completely true. My concern is that each of them have enough suspicion of having a shred of truth in them that thoughts like this come into the mind of the satirist. Not only that but the idea that people instantly associate these things with things they know or questions they have about Obama. Certainly food for thought.

Pops, you are SO right. I keep saying "There's too much smoke..there has to be fire"
When that man says ONE THING which sounds like he loves America, I'll change my mind. Nothing yet..NOTHING.
Food for thought indeed. Good humor MUST involve some truth or people just say, "what the hell was that about!?"
Morgan
You're right, Morgan. That's why Mark Twain is such an icon, any really good humorist draws out the things lurking in the shadows!
And ALL of those things ARE!
Good morning, G*D bless and Maranatha!

I was incensed after Obama's comments at the La Raza convention!
The man and his wife DO NOT LOVE this country.
Of course, to hear it told from the leftist, the cover makes fun of us.
This cover is fishy to me Papa Frank. I think the NYer and Obama are in bed together on this one.
Edge -- I think you are right. It's kind of like bait to draw out the dumb wing of conservatives that see conspiracies everywhere. They're looking for sound bites of some prominent Republican saying: "See, I told you he was a muslim!!!" As long as this does not happen though I believe this may backfire on them nicely. Obviously it was not the intention of the leftwing NYer to help McCain or to hurt Obama.
Unless there is a clinton in the background...THAT IS a possibility.
I do not take this cover as gospel, but it IS funny...sad that the leftistas are trying to paint us all with the same brush.

Where there is smoke there is fire..huh?
I think the real danger for Obama in this cartoon is the caricature of Michelle. While I'm not a big fan of attacking wives during a campaign, I think some of the comments she has made and her association with Rev Wright has to be examined as relevant to Obama's judgement and character. The way she is depicted in the cartoon, while over the top, may not be too far from the truth. This recognition may be part of the outrage of the Obama campaign.
Thanks for stopping by Chuck. Make yourself at home!
Heck this is the real them!!!
The cover was meant to make fun of people like us, like it is so insane to believe a man who was raised Muslim might hold on to some of his parents beliefs. And personally I don't care if he is black/white/red/yellow/muslim/christian/jew... the fact is the man has Che Guevara flags flying in his campaign HQ, so that means he supports anti-American terrorists of one form or another.
I like the cover, personally. I think most Americans see this as affirmation of their suspicions. Of course, the NYorker meant to poke fun at us dumb non-socialite types, but it obviously backfired.
at least I think it did.
